BC Construction Group, a national design-build firm, was selected to build the new school. Orangeburg Preparatory Charter School will be renamed Willie Jeffries School of Excellence in honor of longtime coach and educator James Jeffreys. The school board voted unanimously to approve the name change. Jeffreys has been a fixture in the Orangeburg community for decades. He served as the head football coach at Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School for 32 years, leading the team to three state championships. He also served as the school’s athletic director and was a teacher in the district for 42 years.

Jeffreys is known for his dedication to his students and his commitment to excellence. He is a role model for many young people in the community and is considered a legend in Orangeburg.The name change is a fitting tribute to Jeffreys’ contributions to the community. It is a way to honor his legacy and ensure that his name will be remembered for generations to come.
